Telling a Story Through Images.
Shai Skinner, a basketball coach for Lane Community College in Eugene, Oregon let me join in on one of her afternoons while telling me how coaching has changed her life and how it keeps her sane.

Shai Skinner has been playing basketball since she was in third grade and started coaching basketball four years ago at Lane Community College. She frequents Jefferson Park under the Delta Highway to upkeep her favorite hobby. She says all of her best memories come from playing basketball growing up.

Growing up Skinner struggled a lot with anxiety and depression but coaching has helped her have an outlet. When she’s on the court she forgets about anything stressful going on and helps her find purpose.

Skinner has become a much more confident basketball player after coaching and it has made her feel more alive. Being surrounded by other strong women makes her feel empowered and driven.

Since Skinner has been doing basketball as a job, hobby and sport for the last 13 years; she has every trick down. Skinner plans on playing and coaching for a few more years at LCC and wants to be a coach for the Oregon Ducks one day!
